If they were to change their name, University of Cleveland makes the most sense. It would match the already existing University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, and University of Akron.
Football would have a natural home in the MVFC in FCS, although if they ever wanted to go FBS their natural home (the MAC) already has 6 teams from the state of Ohio.

If they were to start up football, assume they would be Div. I - FCS.
Cleveland State is in the Horizon League, which doesn't sponsor football.
They could start out non-scholarship and play in the Pioneer league with Dayton of the A-10).
They could add scholarships, and after achieving some credibility, perhaps apply to join the very competitive MVFC. Youngstown State (also in the Horizon League) is the easternmost member of the MVFC, and they might become great football rivals. The MVFC is now at 9 (since adding NDSU and SDSU), but might consider expansing again, if Indiana State were to drop football....

It would be FCS. While they MVC may be a little hesitant at first to pick them up, the Northeast (while a little bit of a haul) might be a good starting ground once they start adding scholarships, and then they can build up into being set to hit the MVC (who after a while may face pressure from the Horizon to add them). If nothing else works out, while it might be somewhat of a haul, the Ohio Valley could be a possible destination.
As far as the name change, while some of the comments on the link itself weren't too thrilled, Dafoe is right that it makes sense with putting them in the same lines as Cincy, Toledo, Akron, Bowling Green and Kent (while the latter two I guess technically have "State" in the names, they're usually referred to as Kent and BG).

That is the question. Would the MAC accept both Cleveland State and Youngstown State? They were the first conference that had 14 schools for a couple of years at one time to make it a super conference.

Not right now, as Cleveland has to build up on the FCS level, and Youngstown hasn't been the same since Tressel (sp?) left. I was talking about football in the Missouri Valley (I-AA) and still staying in the Horizon for time being, possibly making themselves a suitor along with Butler to join the MVC in other sports should they go to 12 teams. I don't see the MAC being in the discussion for at least 7 or 8 years, depending on how committed Cleveland is at building up towards I-A.
